The Relationship Skills Programme (RSP)

Is your partner afraid of you? Do you ask yourself if you are violent or abusive?
If you do then you probably are.

Slapping, punching, kicking, threatning, smashing things, isolating her, spying, threatning to harm the children, stopping her from seeing her friends, ignoring her, using the children, putting her down, sulking, witholding sex, forcing her to have sex, controlling the money and many more.........

If you recognise that YOU have used any of the above behaviours toward a partner then you have been or are being abusive. No matter how you feel, it is never alright to hurt or scare your partner or children.

If you want to stop then we can help you to change. Ask for further information.
Or download our information file.

All men who refer or are referred to the project are offered assessments to determine their suitability for the Relationship skills Programme. The service is FREE.

Our staff will meet with you to determine your suitability and what changes you wish to make.

The assessment will look at your behaviour within the relationship and your understanding of how that behaviour has impacted on your partner and children. You will be given all the information that you need to make an informed decsion about attending by our staff.

The assessment will cover such things as; how you view abusive behaviours in your partnership and whether you see that as a problem. Your level of acceptance that behaviours in your relationship have not been healthy for either your partner or children. You will also be advised as to the conditions of attendance and your willingness to abide by these.

The Relationship Skills Programme is group work based. We work in small groups. If you meet the eligibility criteria and are selected to attend, you would be required to commit to coming to group once a week. The duration of these sessions would be between two and three hours. In total the programme will run for 26 weeks. It requires you to remain committed to your goal of building a repectful and healthy relationship based on ending controlling, abusive and violent behaviours. Remember, abusive behaviours are behaviours of choice. The programme will help you to develop a better awareness of why you chose to behave as you did and re-structuring your relationship skills. Allowing you to make better informed choices that will help you build a respectful relationship built on trust and care.

Currently the programme is run in South Shields and Darlington with plans to expand our service to other areas during 2012.
